There are a number of reasons why this is important including:
A usable skill that we can travel and find employment with from the day we leave school/college
Empathy for different cultures.
Improved mental agility and acuity

You now have your groups and your team challenge is to research and learn Japanese.
In term 4 we will have a Learning Celebration Day, where we will have a cultural focus and each group will present a performance that shows what language they have learnt over the next 10 weeks. You will have an hour each Friday to work together as a group and you may want to think about how you could use technology to help you collaborate on this task.
Each group will be marked on set criteria and I will be finding a special prize for the winning group, when I am in Japan.
Assessment Criteria for Team Japanese Challenge
1. Level of commitment from each group member
2. Creativity of final presentation
3. Complexity level of language learnt
4. Record of learning journey in each group members language book
